According to the annexes to the RA state budget, two grant programmes to improve quality of education in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) have been implemented since 2021. These programmes were launched with the support of the World Bank to contribute to the formation of an innovative educational environment.
With the support of the World Bank, the “EU4Innovation in Armenia” pilot grant programme has allocated funds for the capacity development of the “National Center for Education Development and Innovation” as well as for training teachers of general education schools in the Tavush region of the Republic of Armenia in information and communication technologies. The programme funding amounted to AMD 20.2 mln in 2021, AMD 113.1 mln in 2022, and AMD 3.1 mln in 2023.
The second grant programme was carried out within the framework of the same initiative and again in Tavush. In order to improve the educational environment in the fields of STEM and to implement capital investments within the framework of the programme, equipping the general education schools of the region with necessary computer technique, laboratory equipment and property. Investments in this program amounted to AMD 117 mln 2021, AMD 1.7 bln in 2022 and AMD 38.9 mln in 2023.
Since 2024, according to budget documents, the state has also implemented support programs for the training of teachers teaching STEM subjects and equipping schools in the regions of Armenia with laboratories.
AMD 487.9 mln were allocated in 2024 and according to the data of the first semester, AMD 42.5 mln in 2025 for the training of teachers teaching STEM subjects in state schools. 140 teachers teaching STEM subjects were trained in 2024, and 438 teachers in 2025.
According to budget documents, state schools in the Republic of Armenia have been provided with modern STEM laboratories. Schools in the Ararat, Kotayk, and Gegharkunik regions have received support. According to the official data, the number of schools equipped with modern STEM laboratories has reached 158 by 2024. AMD 2 bln have been allocated for this measure.
According to the data of the first half of 2025, the number of schools equipped with modern STEM laboratories is 72, and budget funding amounts to AMD 1.5 bln.
